Everyday Makeup Favorites

I’ve talked a lot about how much I love makeup and I figured it’s about time I post some of my favorite makeup products on here. It’s been years since I first started experimenting with makeup and I’ve gone through hundreds of products and I’m rounding up some of my recent favorites in one big post, so be ready for a ton of rambling!

When I first started using makeup, I wore it more as a way to cover up my acne (which I talked a ton about in a very personal post here) and never really thought of it as a creative outlet until later on. However, after overcoming my skin nightmares, doing my makeup in the morning has become one of my favorite parts of the day. I love playing around with different products and creating looks that suit whatever mood I’m in. I can’t really say I have one look I do 99% of the time, as I switch it up constantly, but this look is the closest representation of my makeup on an average day.

As the weather gets colder and my summer tan fades away, I toss the BB Cream and opt for more coverage with a foundation. I’m another level of picky when it comes to foundation and have gone through my fair share of finished and unfinished bottles in the past few years. Luckily, I think I’ll be able to settle down with my current favorite for a long time to come. Anyway enough rambling and let’s get to it!

There is no doubt that every morning I spend the most time on my eyebrows. I mean, when you’re as big of a perfectionist as I am, it’s easy to get a little obsessed with making them perfect, then having to remind yourself, “Sisters, not twins” at least ten times. Below I’ve featured some of my favorite eyebrow products that help me keep that sharp-but-not sharpie-like appearance with my brows. Warning: I use a ton of NYX Cosmetics products, main reason being, they’re affordable, cruelty-free, and are very easily comparable to higher end brands (I mean really, how much of a difference can there be in an eyebrow pencil?!).

Before I fill in my brows, I always start off with my NYX Eyebrow Shaper Wax Pencil. My eyebrows do NOT stay neatly in place on their own and this pencil does a fantastic job at flattening out my hairs and smoothing them in place before I do anything else. After I’ve tamed my eyebrows a bit, I usually use my NYX Tinted Brow Mascara, which I realized I forgot to include in the photo below but I did use for this look. I’ve linked it anyway for anyone interested! I apply the brow mascara mostly on the middle-to-tail of my eyebrow. Always try to keep the front of your brows lighter, otherwise you’ll end up with that block-sharpie eyebrow we’ve all seen.

Personally, for the front of my brows, I like to use the lighter color in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyebrow Powder Duo with an angled brush. A big plus of using wax beforehand is that the powder can be applied much more smoothly afterwards. Then I go in with my NYX Micro Brow Pencil (literally the best eyebrow pencil I’ve found–super similar to the Anastasia Beverly Hills pencils) and fix any smudged edges on my brows. ALWAYS brush over your eyebrows after applying products in between, it works wonders for making them look much more natural and blended. If I’m feeling extra I go and clean up any edges with my Amazing Cosmetics Concealer and use these tiny blender sponges (SO cute) to blend it all in. I got these micro beauty blenders at my local Marshall’s because there’s practically nothing you can tell me that will convince me to spend over 5-7 bucks on makeup sponges…

Moving onto my eyes, which I start off by applying my Urban Decay Primer Potion. I almost always go for a more natural palette when it comes to eyeshadow, so I’m going to be super basic and tell you all about how much I love my Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette. No but really, I got this as a gift and it’s been my go-to for almost a full year now. I went for a matte look in the photo above, but some days I feel festive and go for a more glittery look. My favorite matte combo is the color Naked, which I apply all over my lid, + this dark brown color from this old Lancóme Duo I’ve had for years, which I blend into my crease and outer corner of my eye. I then highlight the inner corner of my eye using the shade Virgin.

I hate applying actual eyeliner so I rarely ever do it for the sake of my sanity and time, but I do like to line my eyes with the black Creep eyeshadow in the Naked palette, using a very fine, slightly wet brush and winging it out a bit. I’ve been doing this forever and found out while skimming a magazine that celebrities have actually started doing it, so I guess my lazy technique works after all. Then I coat my lashes with my absolute favorite, the Buxom Lash Mascara. This mascara is amazing and certainly lives up to its great reviews. It also hasn’t dried out at all yet, which means it has lasted significantly longer than any of my prior mascaras.

And now to my favorite part, the face! Lately I’ve really been loving the Benefit POREfessional Face Primer which I got as a free sample for the second time from Sephora, but I definitely would recommend buying it. It mattes out my face so well and acts as a fantastic base for foundation. I cannot rave enough about how much I love my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. The price tag is a little higher than I’d prefer, but I was lucky enough to have received a gift card from someone and finally bought it. I love this stuff. I’ve never found another foundation that has the coverage, smoothness, and lightness as this one. It feels like I have nothing on my face, yet literally makes it look like silk. If you ever want to splurge on a foundation, this one is SO worth it. I apply it using a flat stippling brush. To highlight my face, I use the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser on my forehead, nose, chin, and under my eyes (you know, like one of those weird looking contour pictures you see everywhere). I blend it in by lightly patting my damp makeup sponge. This product is super affordable and also has a wonderful silky feel to it, making it the perfect pair with my foundation.

Now it’s time to add some life to my face! Before I add any bronzers/blush however, I set my highlighted areas with my NARS Invisible Loose Setting Powder. Because it’s so loose and translucent, it does a fantastic job at fully mattifying my face and taking away any cakey appearance. I then apply my Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation using a tiny brush for any blemishes that might still be visible, kind of like a spot treatment. Next up, bronzer! I have found a new favorite ever since Sephora sent me a sample of it, the Benefit Hoola Matte Box O’ Powder Bronzer is seriously SO GOOD for contouring my cheek bones– it blends better than any other bronzer I’ve used. And lastly, I go for my NYX Blush in “Intuition” and blend both the bronzer and blush into my skin with a fluffy kabuki brush.

Every beauty fanatic knows how much fun it is to apply a shimmery highlight when you’re done! I’ve found that most highlighters I’ve tried make my face look way too oily and shiny, so I’ve resorted to using an eyeshadow, yes, eyeshadow, as a highlighter. I use “Nude Beach” from the Too Faced Natural Palette. I’ve had this palette for years though, so when I went to go find a link for you guys I realized Too Faced actually got rid of this shade and replaced it with something else. I’m pretty disappointed in that because now I’ll be forced to search for a good highlighter again (sigh) but I’ve heard great things about several of the other highlighters I’ve linked below. To seal it all off and make sure my makeup doesn’t smudge all day, I use the NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray!

Oh and for lipstick, I’ve recently found a shade that I literally wear everyday. It’s the perfect pink/peach blend that works for every season. It’s also super creamy and doesn’t dry out your lips throughout the day, a huge plus. This one is the Bobbi Brown Lip Color in “Blondie Pink.”
